Driving through the San Juan National Forest, we stopped to investigate the source of jagged waterfalls and snow-covered cliffs.

Mesa Verde National Park

We saw wild horses and a coyote at Mesa Verde. Much of the area was scarred by fire, but burned trees looked beautiful against a bright blue sky.

The only point in the U.S. where four states come together with right angles.

At Canyons of the Ancients, there are remnants where the community protested turning the land into a national monument.

A magpie takes flight at Great Sand Dunes

When you think of sand dunes, does Colorado come to mind? Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, in Southern Colorado, is home to North America's tallest sand dunes.  A backdrop of snow covered mountains serves as an ironic setting for the 750 ft. dunes.

Elk were reintroduced to the park without any of their predators. The Elk have taken over.

Magpies are also common in the park.
